Valentine Cut-A-Thon
A Great Success
CBMI’s spacious dining room was turned into a busy hair salon on Sunday February 11th for a very successful Valentine Cut-A-Thon and Silent Auction fundraising event.
Over $9,000 was raised for CBMI’s “forgotten CHILDREN rescue fund”, to help children living in poverty with disabilities in Africa.
The entire staff of headlines salon and spa of Stouffville and owners of two other local hair salons volunteered their time for the day long event which attracted over 125 people.
Whitchurch-Stouffville Mayor Wayne Emmerson and Fil Martino, Anchor and Producer for First Local, Rogers Television, York Region, were the featured celebrities.
John Galati, owner of headlines salon and spa, who organized the event, had learned about CBMI’s program through one of his regular customers, Rhonda Milos, Data Manager at the Mission.
“I wanted to be involved in something bigger than handing over a cheque and forgetting about it,” says Galati. His goal was to “have the community recognize that there are children in the world’s poorest countries that have been forgotten and need help.”
headlines salon and spa has been in Stouffville for over 20 years while CBMI’s headquarters in Canada has been in Stouffville for nearly 30 years. The event was sponsored by headlines salon and spa, Great Lengths Hair Gallery and Salon U.
CBMI is the world's leading organization rescuing and restoring people trapped in poverty by disabilities in the poorest countries of the world, regardless of race, gender, age or religion. Last year CBMI cared for over 12 million people and performed over 600,000 cataract operations.
