25th Anniversary Gala
CBMI Canada celebrated our 25th Anniversary Gala at the Hilton
Conference Centre in Markham, Ontario.
It was a first class event, with more than 300 donors, friends
and dignitaries there to celebrate with us. Television crews
and major print media were on location to cover the event, and
specifically to interview our keynote speaker.
The gala was a night of celebration, gratitude and entertainment
supported by big screen presentations on CBMI Canada’s
work. We received many letters of congratulations from around
the world, including notes from President Carter, Barbara Bush
and First Lady Laura Bush.
The keynote speaker was Dave Dravecky, a former major league
pitcher for the famous San Francisco Giants. Dave has overcome
cancer, the loss of his arm and the death of a life-long dream.
Dravecky inspired the audience on the night with his support
of Christian Blind Mission’s work, and as a result we raised
over $60,000 for our project - the “House of Hope” rehabilitation
centre located in the shadow of Mount Kilimanjaro,Tanzania.
Orthopaedic surgeon Dr. Norgrove Penny was presented with our “Love
In Action” award by Bob Stover, chairman of the CBMI Canada
Board. The “Love In Action” Award honours those co-workers
who embody the mission’s vision of work with the poorest
of the poor.
