cbm's EMERGENCY ACTION PLAN

Phase 1: Save Lives

(IN ACTION NOW)

  • Survivors, especially the most vulnerable (children, pregnant mothers and people with disabilities) in urgent need of food, water and medicine.
  • Find, evacuate, and treat people who are wounded.
  • A Survival kit with medical care, food, water, clothing and other essentials needed to keep a family alive for 15 days cost $55.

Phase 2: Prevent Disability

(IN ACTION NOW – AND IN DAYS + WEEKS TO COME)

  • Caring for large number of people injured by falling concrete and debris – to prevent long-term disability
  • Ensure proper hygiene to prevent infection and diseases (ie. tuberculosis.)

Phase 3: Rebuild Lives

(PLANS LAID – WAITING OFFICIAL AUTHORIZATION)

  • Rebuilding medical infrastructure destroyed in the quake. Build capacity to deal with increased numbers of people injured in the quake.
  • Provide training and rehabilitation for people disabled as a result of the earthquake.
  • Create income generating opportunities for people with disabilities.

PRAYER REQUESTS:

  • Injured WomanPray for cbm’s Partners in Port-au-prince, the Grace Children’s Hospital, and the University Hospital:
    - That the children, doctors, staff and their families will be safe.
    - For strength and endurance as they deal with the staggering demand over the next few days, weeks and months.
  • Pray people with disabilities be given access to life-saving relief aid. Pray people who are injured and disabled as a result of the earthquake will receive the rehabilitation and care they need.
  • Pray for those who lost family and friends in the toppled buildings – that God give them comfort as they both mourn and rebuild their lives.
